LOS ANGELES (November 29, 2018) — Indie action-thriller Ryder has cast Booboo Stewart (Descendants, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Twilight Saga) as its namesake leading role.
Writer/Director Ian Clay's sophomore feature, Ryder follows an outcast Texan teen hunting for revenge after a horrific attack against his girlfriend by a town bully. Principal photography will begin early Summer 2019 in nearby Lucerne Valley and Big Bear, California. Ken Morris (The Fare, The Allnighter, Obselidia) of Cineglitch Entertainment will produce.
Rooted in Clay’s childhood in rural Alberta (including time spent on a First Nations Reservation) the film merges the traditions of the Western with a contemporary young-adult thriller set in a remote Texas town in the 1990s.
“The tone of the movie really intrigued me and drew me to the project” said Stewart. “I love stories with a ‘slow burn’ and really connected with Ian. I loved his take on it.” Stewart, of Blackfoot Ancestry, is known for playing Seth Clearwater, a werewolf in The Twilight Saga and Jay, son of Jafar, in the Disney television films Descendents, Descendents 2, and the soon-to-be-released Descendents 3.
